The Levitt National Tour is almost here!

In just over a month, genre-busting classical strings meets hip-hop duo Black Violin will kick off the #LevittTour stopping at six Levitt cities across the country. Get a sneak peek of what’s to come when they arrive in Memphis (June 13), Arlington (June 20), Los Angeles (June 26), Pasadena (June 27), Bethlehem (July 11) and Denver (July 17)! All shows are free and fun for all ages.

Are you excited that it’s finally May, Levitteers? Not only are we that much closer to the start of concert season, but it’s also National Bike Month, a celebration of cycling first established in 1956!

Here at Levitt, we wholeheartedly support the many benefits of biking, from healthier living to reducing our carbon footprint to improving the overall livability of places. We’re thrilled to see the country moving towards increased bikeability, with initiatives like protected bike lanes and bike share programs growing more popular in cities like Los Angeles and Memphis.

Levitt Arlington and Levitt Shell Memphis have released their artist lineups, Levitt SteelStacks has announced almost half of its 50+ free concerts and the Levitt venues in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Westport will also reveal theirs soon. In just a few months, 400+ free concerts will bring joy to communities all across America, including 10 new small to mid-sized towns and cities as part of the Levitt AMP Music Series!

Excited? We are! And we’re thrilled to announce the artists who will be playing the Levitt AMP AnchorageDenison and Frederick Music Series, all of which begin early this summer. You can view their lineups, read artist bios, RSVP for concerts, invite your friends, find parking information and more on our new Levitt AMP website, your destination for all things Levitt AMP! SPACEThe incomparable opera singer Sarah Brightman is not the only talented musician heading to space. Starting in 2020, Levitt Pavilions will transform OUTER spaces in addition to neglected outdoor spaces!

Levitt Pavilions is thrilled to announce the launch of the Star-Powered Astro-Concert Experience (SPACE) Initiative. Through a historic multi-year partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), musicians will begin accompanying astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2020 as part of their psychological support team. During their three-month residencies, SPACE musicians will teach weekly music lessons, work with astronauts to compose songs and present a live concert from space that will be broadcast to global audiences. In this Faces of Levitt video, longtime Bethlehem resident and Levitt SteelStacks volunteer Jeff Brodhead shares how going to free Levitt concerts and witnessing the revitalization of Bethlehem’s south side inspired him to get involved. “The music here is just wonderful,” says Brodhead. “Once you come here once, you’re coming back again.”

BachinOurSubways2015 You’ve probably heard the music of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) sometime in your life—on the radio, at the grocery store, in the background of a TV show. But have you heard it in the subways?

Tomorrow is Bach in the Subways Day (BITSD), a celebration of Bach on the 330th anniversary of his birth. Musicians everywhere will be filling not just subways but all kinds of public spaces, including several near Levitt venues, with free, live performances of his music, increasing classical music’s accessibility to the public. We all know that music brings people together—just head to any Levitt venue during concert season and you’ll see people of all ages and backgrounds dancing, picnicking and enjoying free, live music under the stars.

But what happens when music pushes people apart?

That’s what Johnathan Chen, founder and CEO of nonprofit record label OneReasonRecordings, experienced when he moved from Texas to New York City in 2012. Although he saw homeless people nearly everywhere he went (there are over 60,000 in the city), he noticed that few passerby ever reached out to those most in need. Since many of these commuters were wearing headphones, Chen assumed music was making social issues easier to ignore.

Inspired, Chen, then a freshman at NYU, founded OneReasonRecordings (ORR), with the mission to promote music as a tool to combat social problems. Continue reading
