Earlier this week, Local Foods, Local Placesa federal partnership dedicated to helping communities create walkable, healthy and economically vibrant neighborhoods by strengthening local food systemsannounced their 2016 community partners. We’re thrilled to learn that out of 300+ applicants, three of the 27 towns and cities selected to participate in this collaborative initiative will also be hosting free Levitt concerts this season. It’s a sure sign of warmer evenings to come when the free concert season at the Levitt is announced!

Every year, the six Levitt venues across the country each present 50+ free shows featuring acclaimed artists in a variety of genres. New this summer is the inaugural Levitt National Tour with World music group Playing For Change—they’ll be stopping at five Levitt venues along with the future Levitt site in Denver.

While we still have more big names and big news to come, here’s a quick peek at season dates and concert highlights. We’ll be updating the list as details are announced!

Levitt artists 2013 Holiday playlist album coversWhat better way to start this week than with a very merry Levitt artists playlist!

We’ve included new spins on classics (Mariachi Divas‘ “Santa Baby” en español, Pentatonix’s doo-wop “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” and Los Straitjackets‘ funky “Soul’d Lang Syne”), contemplative, acoustic takes on peace and hope (Vieux Farka Toure’s “Peace,” and Klezmer Juice’s cover of Matisyahu’s “Late Night in Zion”), a beloved spiritual (Kirk Whalum’s interpretation of “Rise Up Shepard and Follow”) and plain-old dance fests (Fishtank Ensemble’s “Papirosen” and Big Sam’s Funky Nation’s “Ain’t Nothing But a Party”).
