ThisPlaceMatters

What’s your special place?

Everyone has one—whether old or new, small or large, personal or public—from a neighborhood restaurant, to a famous tourist attraction, to a local Levitt venue.

Now’s the time to share the places you love with the world! Throughout October, the #ThisPlaceMatters campaign by National Trust for Historic Preservation and Curbed celebrates the diverse spaces that characterize our neighborhoods, towns and cities.  Continue reading

Here in Los Angeles, we’re looking out our window at some much needed rain. Although rain has a way of putting a damper on many outdoor activities, it sure didn’t stop folks at Levitt Shell from enjoying a fantastic show when the 2015 Levitt National Tour came to town earlier this summer.

We thought we’d use this #musicmoves post to give a shoutout to Black Violin and all the Levitteers who came out for the Levitt National Tour, which stopped in six Levitt locations across the country. Thank you for bringing your energy and enthusiasm to each of Black Violin’s performances, and making the 2015 Levitt National Tour such a success!

Every stroke of the brush, stitch of the needle, or moment of the memoir uniquely marks our society and contributes to our national character.  This month, we recognize the ways the arts and humanities have forever changed our country, and we recommit to ensuring every American has the opportunity and the freedom to question, discover, and create.
— Presidential Proclamation, National Arts and Humanities Month, 2015

NAMH_logoHappy 30th anniversary to National Arts and Humanities Month!

Since 1985, October has been recognized by Americans for the Arts and the White House as a time to celebrate the importance of cultural experiences in our lives. At Levitt, we believe that the arts are essential to living healthy, happy lives—and that all people should have access to free, live music, regardless of age or background.

Join us this month in celebrating NAHM and check out some of our favorite reasons to support the arts, adapted from this infographic by Americans for the Arts: Continue reading

If you happen to be near Memphis, Tenn., this weekend, you’re in for a treat, because The Suffers—who’ve already taken Levitt lawns in Arlington, Texas and Lafayette, La. by storm this season—will be heading to Levitt Shell this Friday night! This ten-piece retro soul band hailing from Houston, Texas, will be serving up a healthy portion of what they call “Gulf Coast Soul.”

In a recent interview, Kam Franklin—the band’s fiery vocalist—explained how the group came to define their sound as “Gulf Coast Soul:” “When I think of the Gulf, I think of good food, humidity, diverse cultures, and this is all reflected in the Suffers. We come from different backgrounds, but it all comes together in our band and we create a gumbo of music. It might not make sense on paper to put a Latin percussionist with a gospel singer with a classically trained saxophonist with a jazz drummer, but for us, it works.” Continue reading

LukeWadeSpotlight

Not many people can say heatstroke is what inspired them to start writing music—but Luke Wade can.

The Texas-born singer-songwriter and Season 7 finalist on The Voice began writing music after suffering from temporary brain damage and amnesia as a teenager after a high school cross country meet in the sweltering heat. Writing music became a way to heal, and Wade has been following his dream of becoming a professional musician ever since.

This Friday, Wade returns to Levitt Arlington for a free show kicking off UT Arlington Weekend at the Levitt. Learn more about the soul singer—who has been compared to the likes of Ray LaMontagne and who also performed at Levitt SteelStacks and Levitt Westport earlier this summer—before the show. @ashleyyreeed, thanks for sharing this great shot of fiery vocalist, Danielia Cotton, rocking the Levitt AMP Trenton stage! And kudos for summing up what we love most about the Levitt AMP Music Series—fun, music and community.

With autumn only one day away, what better way to say farewell to summer 2015 than by enjoying some free, live music in the great outdoors? There’s still one more performance in the Levitt AMP Trenton Music Series, so if you’re in the area, be sure to head to Capital Green this Saturday for an evening you won’t forget. You’re bound to have a great time once the engaging and hilarious experimental rockers, The Dean Ween Group take the stage!
