This week, we’ve launched the 2017 Levitt AMP Music Series website—your go-to resource for lineups, artist bios and all things Levitt AMP—and the 2017 Levitt AMP artist lineups have started rollin’ in!

Starting June 2 with the Vandoliers, an alt-country band with punk roots, the Levitt AMP Jacksonville Music Series will present 10 weeks of free, live music in Central Park—fueling the city’s efforts to revitalize the formerly neglected historic central business district and bringing the joy of free, live music back to Central Park. Levitt to launch Pet Clothing Requirement (LPCR) for 2017 concert season

We take great pride in the fact that Levitt lawns across the country serve as places where those of all ages, backgrounds and breeds can come together and enjoy free, live music. Today we are deepening our commitment to providing a welcoming atmosphere for all our concertgoers—people and pets alike—with our Pet Clothing Requirement, which will go into effect at the start of the 2017 Levitt concert season. Last week we turned our clocks forward, giving us an extra hour of late afternoon light to enjoy during this first week of spring!

It’s that time of year when green spaces across the country are in transformation, bringing colorful signs of life along with them. Here at Levitt, we love “springing” into this new season because it means that free outdoor concerts are just around the corner!

This year, the Levitt Foundation is supporting free Levitt concerts in 22 towns and cities (with some beginning as early as May!), so get ready for another season of free, live music in your community!

Meet the Artist: Blame Sally

Last week we celebrated International Women’s Day by spotlighting a few of our favorite female artists, including several who’ve performed on Levitt stages. With Women’s History Month still in full swing, today we’re turning our attention to four more talented ladies. Blame Sally—an all-female collaboration of San Francisco-based singer-songwriters—is no stranger to Levitt stages. Since forming in 2000, the group has moved audiences across the globe with their rich harmonies, eclectic folk/pop/Americana instrumentation (from stompboxes to fiddles) and heartfelt performances—including at Levitt pavilions in Arlington, Texas (2011, 2009) and Pasadena Calif. Last week we had the pleasure of hosting the 2017 Levitt AMP grantees here in our Echo Park office—what an inspiring group of individuals!

These local arts champions hail from 15 small- to mid-sized towns and cities all across the country. After experiencing their passion, enthusiasm and dedication to building community through music at this year’s Levitt AMP convening, we couldn’t be more excited to see the 2017 Levitt AMP Music Series come to life!

Hold onto your hats, folks! We’re in store for a fantastic 2017 concert season (and it’s only a few months away!)

Here at Levitt, we’re firm believers that people of all ages and backgrounds deserve the opportunity to experience the arts. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) serves our nation by supporting inclusive arts programming—including free Levitt concerts—across all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories (which is why it’s near and dear to our hearts!).

10 behind-the-scenes facts about La La Land’s award-winning music

This past Sunday, Damien Chazelle’s film La La Land broke records at the 74th Golden Globe awards, taking home every award for which it was nominated—seven in total. While watching a love story between a struggling jazz purist (Ryan Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) unfold, the film’s viewers enjoy a playful explosion of color, iconic Los Angeles landmarks and some fabulous music composed by Justin Hurwitz (with lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul). Hurwitz’s whimsical work earned Golden Globe Awards for both “Best Original Score” and “Best Original Song.” Continue reading →
