Levitt loves_fearless females

Happy International Women’s Day! Today’s post celebrates all the fearless females out there who are courageously breaking barriers—including the ladies of Flor de Toloache, headliners of the 2019 Levitt National Tour! As New York’s first and only all-female mariachi group, GRAMMY-winning Flor de Toloache is fearlessly pushing the genre’s boundaries with their electrifying fusions of mariachi, jazz, salsa, pop and more. Their bold artistic vision and sophisticated, fresh interpretation of mariachi classics continues to win the hearts of contemporary and traditional mariachi music fans alike. Flor de Toloache made music history in 2017, when their critically-acclaimed studio album “Las Caras Lindas” was awarded the Latin GRAMMY Award for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album—making them the first female recipients of the award.

Here’s to the many generations of fearless women who’ve paved the way for the women of today and tomorrow to dream, thrive and continue breaking barriers!

Here at Levitt, we’re firm believers in the power of free, live music to transform communities—especially when those concerts are taking place in the great outdoors. Why? Countless studies remind us why we yearn to be outside. Time in nature allows us to press a ‘reset’ button, triggering a wide array of health benefits from lowering cortisol levels (stress), to alleviating pain, to improving our mental health. Which is why today, in honor of Black History Month, we’re honoring the contributions of three of the many pioneering African American conservationists who’ve made a profound impact on our country’s natural environments. Each has dedicated their time and unique talents to protecting green spaces and ensuring that people of all backgrounds can enjoy nature experiences for years to come. Continue reading

Levitt_loves_love

On this annual day of love, we’re celebrating love in its many forms! Looking around Levitt lawns, you see family members embracing, couples dancing, and friends and neighbors enjoying each other’s company. Perhaps that’s why so many Levitteers have opted to celebrate life’s milestone moments at Levitt concerts, surrounded by the joyous sounds of free, live music (and why this Gentlemen’s Guide to Proposing includes Levitt Pavilion Arlington on their list of suggested places to propose).

Whether you’re celebrating with friends, family, or that special someone, we hope you’re enjoying some ‘feel-good’ music and embracing the joy that today’s holiday brings. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Holiday decorations have been put away, New Year’s resolutions have been made and we’re already dreaming of warm spring days—bringing us one step closer to the 2019 Levitt concert season!

This year, more than 550 free Levitt concerts will take place in 26 towns and cities nationwide, serving more than 750,000 people. And planning is already underway! Across the country, Friends of Levitt nonprofit partners and Levitt AMP grantees are hard at work to make 2019 the most impactful season yet—energizing public spaces in metropolitan centers like Los Angeles, where Angelenos will gather in MacArthur Park to enjoy free outdoor concerts in one of the city’s densest, most diverse neighborhoods; to rural communities like St. Johnsbury, Vt., where residents and visitors alike will come together to experience the joy of free, live music atop the scenic Dog Mountain, in a formerly industrial area. Levitt loves...clever costumes

Do you need some costumed cuteness to start your Halloween off right? Well, you’re in luck! Look no further than this adorable (hot) dog, struttin’ at the annual Strut Your Mutt event at Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks. However you choose to celebrate the holiday, we hope your day is low on tricks, high on treats and filled with clever costumes that make you smile!

2018_Spotlight Series_metalachi

Tomorrow, Metalachi—the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band—brings their explosive fusion of mariachi and metal to the Levitt AMP Escondido stage!

Clad in costumes as vibrant and eccentric as their music, Metalachi uses a blistering combination of modern and traditional mariachi instrumentation to play iconic rock and metal anthems like you’ve never heard. With bright trumpets, soaring violins and driving guitars, they create passionate original covers of songs by hair-raising musical icons like Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses and Slayer. Born in Juárez, Mexico, and raised in Los Angeles, the half-brothers who formed Metalachi in 2008 found the group’s bold sound by drawing from their family’s rich Mexican musical heritage, and the plethora of genres that surrounded them growing up in Los Angeles. The band’s unlikely take on classic metal hits celebrates the common ground between metal and mariachi, highlighting the passion, danceable rhythms and high-octane energy that characterize both genres.
