In anticipation of Levitt Pavilion Denver’s 2017 debut, Levitteers from the Mile-High City will be treated to the rootsy folk music of Levitt veteran performer John Fullbright tonight at Civic Center Park. This free concert will complete Levitt Denver’s teaser series, which featured five shows headlined by acclaimed musicians.

At just 28-years-old, Fullbright has already received numerous accolades for his music, including a GRAMMY Award nomination (Best Americana Album) for his album, From the Ground Up (2012), that put him alongside high-profile names like The Avett Brothers and Bonnie Raitt. The prodigal singer-songwriter began playing the piano at the age of five, and by his senior year in high school, Fullbright was slotted to play the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in his hometown of Okemah, Okla.

Inspired by legendary songwriters of the 1960s, including Townes Van Zandt, Mickey Newbury and Randy Newman, Fullbright’s songs—all crafted in his childhood home—unassumingly pull off the confidence and maturity typically displayed by seasoned songwriters. His songwriting influences are also apparent in his broadly defined Americana sound, which incorporates folk traditions refreshed with pop and rock stylings.

Following the success of his debut record, Fullbright released his second studio album, simply titled Songs (2014). Rolling Stone named the record one of “The 26 Albums of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear” for its ability to capture the essence of life’s fragile and vulnerable moments. Get a taste of Fullbright’s thought-provoking lyricism with this 2014 World Cafe performance broadcasted on NPR. And if you’re in the Denver area, don’t miss your chance to see John Fullbright perform for free at Civic Center Park tonight, starting at 6:30PM!
