Free Levitt concerts are already well underway in Greensboro, N.C., and this weekend, concerts will continue to roll out in Denison, TexasBethlehem, Pa.; and Arlington, Texas—where symphonic pop band The Polyphonic Spree will return to the Levitt Pavilion Arlington stage this Friday!

Hailing from Dallas, The Polyphonic Spree has been creating an eclectic and euphoric blend of orchestral rock, pop and choral music since 2000—when the group’s lead singer and driving creative force, Tim DeLaughter, put together what was intended to be a temporary experiment. Sixteen years later, this “experiment” has grown into a massive ensemble complete with a full rock band, six-piece choir and eclectic assortment of brass, woodwind and string instruments. Today, the group fluctuates between 15-20 members, but at times it has grown to include up to 29 members.

One of The Polyphonic Spree’s most widely-loved songs to date is “Light & Day,” off The Beginning Stages of The Polyphonic Spree” (2002).

Wondering why this colorful and uplifting tune sounds familiar? Over the years, the band has worked collaboratively with filmmakers and producers to adapt their music, and this song in particular, for film and television.

Here are just a few of the places where you might have heard “Light & Day”:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
In addition to its inclusion on the film’s original soundtrack, “Light & Day” was also brought to life in this original music video, included as a bonus feature on the film’s DVD.

Scrubs (2004)
In 2004, the group made this televised musical appearance on Scrubs.

The Lorax (2012)
More recently, the song was used to set the tone of the 2012 3D-CG film—featured in the trailer as well as the film itself!

“Light & Day” has also been featured in various advertisements, as well as televised episodes of Undone, Las Vegas and the documentary Murderball.

In a recent interview, DeLaughter expressed his appreciation for being a part of so many television and film projects, explaining that the widespread exposure for the eclectic genre-blending band “has been positive all the way around.”

Don’t miss your chance to experience this awe-inspiring Texas psych/pop choir on the Levitt Pavilion Arlington stage this Friday night at 8:30pm, as part of Levitt Arlington’s opening weekend!
